Living in Annandale
Annandale is a suburb of Inner West Sydney, located 5 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government area of the Municipality of Leichhardt. Annandale's northern end lies on Rozelle Bay, which is on Sydney Harbour. Glebe lies to its east, Leichhardt to its west and Stanmore to its south.
History
The land was first granted to Major George Johnston when he brought convicts from England in the First Fleet. He named it Annandale was after his birthplace, Annan, in Scotland, UK. The suburb was established as a fashionable residential area when desirable residences were built in the area in the late 1800s.
Transport Links
Travel to the City and CBD is easily facilitated by trains from Rozelle Bay station and stations at nearby Glebe. Buses run through the area providing a frequent service.
Shopping and Recreation
Annandale has shopping facilities along Parramatta Road and in Booth Street with food, furnishings, cafes, pubs and supermarkets. The area is well suited to running and walking and the neighbouring suburbs of Leichhardt and Newtown have a great supply of recreational facilities.
Schools
Annandale is home to a number of primary schools and child care centres, and high schools and other educational facilities can be found in neighbouring Glebe and Leichhardt.
