Living in Bronte
Bronte is a beachside Eastern suburb of Sydney, located 8 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district, in the Waverley Council local government area of the Eastern Suburbs.
History
The suburb was originally named Nelson’s Bay after the admiral of the same name, but was later renamed after a house that was completed in the area in 1845, Bronte House. The house is privately owned but is opened to the public a few times a year, and is listed on the Register of the National Estate.
Transport Links
Bronte is well served by buses with frequent services to the City and CBD. The train station at Bondi Junction is also just a short bus ride or drive away.
Shopping and Recreation
There is a local shopping centre with a small selection of shops for all the daily essentials, with larger shopping areas in neighbouring suburbs. Bronte is well equipped with a fantastic selection of cafes along the beach front, popular for breakfast and lunch. Centennial Park is nearby with its many running tracks and open spaces.
Schools
Bronte is home to three schools, Bronte Public School and Clovelly Public School, as well as St Catherines- Australia’s oldest girl’s school. Nearby suburbs offer a wide range of both public and private schools.
