Burraneer, NSW – 2230
Burraneer is a small suburb in southern Sydney, located 26 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. Burraneer sits on the peninsula of Burraneer Point, on the north shore of the Port Hacking estuary.
History
Burraneer is an Aboriginal word meaning ‘point of the bay’. It was named by Surveyor Robert Dixon in 1827, who chose many Aboriginal names for many of the bays in the area.
Transport Links
Neighbouring Cronulla and Caringbah provide good rail links and the area is served by buses.
Shopping and Recreation
A small group of shops is located in Woolooware Road. Burraneer Bay Park has an area of bushland, a boardwalk, a playground and a bicycle/jogging track. The Burraneer Bay Marina and the Royal Motor Yacht Club can also be found here.

The local school is Burraneer Bay Public School and is located in neighbouring Woolooware.
