Burwood, NSW – 2134
Burwood is a suburb in the inner-west of Sydney, located 12 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district and is the administrative centre for the local government area of Burwood Council.
History
Captain Thomas Rowley was granted 260 acres here in 1799, which he called Burwood Farm after Burwood Park, England. The first property here was built in 1814, and when the bus services started running in the area, Burwood became a staging post. A village subsequently grew around this area and became a municipality in 1874.
Transport Links
Burwood railway station is on the Inner West Line, South Line, Northern Line and Western Line of the CityRail network and the area is also well served by buses.
Shopping and Recreation
There is a strip of shops by the railway station and a large Westfield shopping centre can be found north of the railway line. Burwood Plaza, a smaller shopping centre, can be found south of the railway line. Burwood Park is home to a children’s playground, a lake and a sporting oval and is a great spot for walking, jogging or cycling.

MLC School and Burwood Public School can both be found here. Nearby Strathfield and Croydon are home to a larger selection of schools.
