Caringbah, NSW – 2229
Caringbah is a suburb, in southern Sydney, located 24 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Sutherland Shire.
History
Caringbah is an Aboriginal word for ‘a pademelon wallaby’. The suburb was originally called Highfield, but Caringbah was used from 1911, after the steam trams began operating between Cronulla and Sutherland.
Transport Links
The area has excellent road links to the CBD and to the popular seaside area of Cronulla. Caringbah railway station is on the Cronulla branch of the Illawarra line on the City Rail network. The area is also well served by buses.
Shopping and Facilities
There are a few local shops with the large Westfield Miranda just a shirt drive away. Sutherland Hospital can be found here, as well as the private Kareena hospital.
Schools
Caringbah Selective High School, Endeavour Sports High School, De La Salle College, Caringbah Public School, Caringbah North Public School, Laguna Street Public School and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School can all be found in the suburb.
