Clifton Gardens is an urban locality in the suburb of Mosman in Sydney, located in the local government area of the Municipality of Mosman and is part of the Lower North Shore.

History

Early settler Captain E. H. Cliffe purchased a 15-acre estate on the water’s edge, and named it “Cliffeton”. It is believed that the area’s name was derived from this. David Thompson built the Marine Hotel that operated from 1891 to 1967, and also built a wharf and dancing pavilion here and the area became popular as a picnic spot.

The locality benefits from its close proximity to the many bus services and road links in Mosman, with the CBD just 8km away and also reachable by a ferry service.

Recreation, Shopping and Schools

Clifton Gardens features an affluent residential area and is home to several beaches and wharves on Sydney Harbour. Clifton Gardens is also a popular fishing spot in summer where a variety of species of fish can be caught. Being in such close proximity to Mosman, North  Sydney and Neutral Bay mean that Clifton Gardens benefits from all the shopping, dining and educational facilities that these larger areas have to offer.
