Living in Darling Point
Darling Point is a harbourside, Eastern Suburb of Sydney, located 4 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government area of Woollahra Council. Darling Point is bounded by Sydney Harbour to the north, Double Bay to the east, Edgecliff to the south and Rushcutters Bay to the west.
History
Darling Point takes its was named after the wife of the then Governor, Ralph Darling. The suburb goes back to the 1830s when New South Head Road was completed heading east. Many of Sydney’s gentry and society leaders built their homes here, with many of these grand buildings still standing today.
Transport Links
Edgecliff train station provides a good train service to Darling Point and regular buses can be caught from New South Head Road. There is also a regular ferry service from McKell Park to Circular Quay.
Shopping and Recreation
There is a small local store in Darling Point, with the more extensive range of shops in Doube Bay or the Edgecliff Centre just a short and pleasant walk away. The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia can be found on the harbour, and the peaceful McKell Park offers a relaxing place to spend an afternoon.
Schools
St Marks Kindergarten and the prestigious Ascham School can be found in Darling Point, with a wider range of schools only a short drive away, including Sydney Girls and Boys High, St Vincents, Sydney Grammar and Waverly College.
