Eastlakes, NSW – 2018

Eastlakes is a suburb in south-eastern Sydney, located 8 kilometres south-east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Botany Bay, and is part of the Eastern Suburbs region.

History

Eastlakes takes its name from the extensive lake system on its southeast and was once known as Botany Swamps. The lakes were partly reclaimed from swamp to allow for building of the Lakes Golf Course and the Sydney Airport extension, but despite this, Eastlakes experiences minimal airport noise due to the alteration of the flight paths across the water.

Transport Links

Eastlakes is located in close proximity to Southern Cross Drive, one of the arterial roads in the area as well as the Eastern Distributor, running directly into the City.

Shopping, Recreation and Schools

Evans Avenue houses a shopping centre, although more extensive shopping can be found in neighbouring suburbs. The Lakes Golf Course, Eastlake Golf Course and Eastlake Golf Club can all be found here, as well as a selection of parks for recreational purposes. Eastlakes Public School can also be found here.
