Living in Haberfield
Haberfield is a suburb in the inner-west of Sydney, located 9 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the Municipality of Ashfield.
History
In 1901 the area was purchased by Richard Stanton and subdivided to create a garden suburb, in the hopes this would help to combat the spread of the bubonic plague by encouraging fresh air in the city. He named the area Haberfield after his family in England. The majority of houses in the suburb are protected by a heritage order, meaning that many of the original Victorian and Federation style buildings still remain, and any renovation work must follow strict guidelines to ensure that work is in keeping with the style of the architecture.
Transport Links
There is a fast train service from nearby Ashfield, although Haberfield is well serviced by buses into the City and CBD.
Shopping and Recreation
All basic shopping facilities can be found along Ramsey Street, the suburbs main thoroughfare, although a more extensive variety of shopping can be found in neighbouring Leichhardt. The beautiful gardens of Haberfield provide great surroundings for a walk or jog, as well as the number of parks and reserves to be found here.
Schools
Haberfield is home to Haberfield Public School, Dobroyd Point Public School and the St Joan of Arc Catholic School can all be found here.
