Lewisham is a suburb in the inner-west of Sydney, located 8 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Marrickville Council.

History

The suburb takes its name from the London borough of Lewisham in England, and was chosen by Joshua Frey Josephson as the name of his estate here in 1834.

The area is well serviced by buses and trains from Lewisham Railway Station travel into the City along the Inner West Line of the CityRail network.

Nearby Leichhardt is a great local shopping spot, and many sporting and recreational facilities can be found in the area. Lewisham has a great selection of schools, including Trinity Grammar School, Christian Brothers’ High School, Lewisham Public School and the Catholic Intensive English Centre.
