Little Bay is a suburb in south-eastern Sydney, located 14 kilometres south-east of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government area of the City of Randwick.

History

Little Bay was originally called Yarra Junction but mail would end up in Melbourne, so the residents asked for the suburb’s name to be changed. This was granted and changed to Phillip Bay Heights, but as everyone called the area Little Bay, this was the name that eventually stuck. Originally used to isolate sufferers of small-pox, The Coast Hospital was built here and used during the bubonic plague. In 2001, services were transferred to Prince Edward Hospital and the site used for residential redevelopment.

Transport Links

The suburb is served by four buses including an express bus between Kingsford and the City.

Recreation and Schools

Little Bay Sporting Complex, St Michaels Golf Club and The Coast Golf Club are all popular here, and the beach at Little Bay has been consistently named one of the cleanest in Sydney. The location of this suburb means residents have good access to all the facilities, amenities and schools of surrounding suburbs.
