Maroubra, NSW – 2035
Maroubra is a beachside suburb in south-eastern Sydney, located 10 kilometres south-east of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Randwick. Maroubra is part of the Eastern Suburbs region.
History
Maroubra is a local Aboriginal word meaning ‘place of thunder’ coming from the sound of the waves crashing onto the rocks along the eastern boundary of the suburb. The first European settlers arrived here in the 1870s when a wool scouring works opened in the area. When the tram line reached the suburb in 1921, Maroubra began to gain in popularity.

The area is well served by buses into the city and CBD and is a short drive from the City.
Shops and Recreation
There is a good selection of cafes and restaurants along the sea front, with a wider range of shops to be found along Anzac Parade. Gyms, tennis courts and a sports oval can be found here, as well as the great beach popular with families and surfers.
Schools
Maroubra is fairly family oriented and has a good selection of schools both primary and secondary. The neighbouring suburbs also offer an excellent selection and some of Sydney’s finest.
