Living in Narrabeen
Narrabeen is a beachside suburb in northern Sydney, located 23 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Warringah Council and is part of the Northern Beaches region.
History
There are many theories as to how the area got its name, amongst the most popular is that it is named after a local girl named ‘Narrabine’, the Aboriginal word for swan. Others argue it is taken from the ‘narrow beans’ that were popularly eaten at the time by settlers. By the mid 1800s, Sydneysiders were attracted to Narrabeen’s laid back beach lifestyle, as well as the beauty of not only the beaches, but of the expansive Narrabeen Lakes.
