Pyrmont, NSW – 2009
Pyrmont is an inner-city suburb of Sydney, located 2 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Sydney. It is also part of the Darling Harbour region.
History
The suburb was named when Captain James Macarthur came across a freshwater spring on his Cockle Bay estate in 1806, similar in appearance to a spring in Pyrmont, near Hanover in Germany. The area was largely industrial until the sites were abandoned and residential properties arose in their place.

A short walk over Pyrmont Bridge will have you in the CBD, and the area is serviced with water taxis, ferries and a bus service.
Shopping and Schools
The area is well known for international cuisine, with Thai, Japanese, Italian and Indian restaurants all to be found here. Local convenience stores cater for daily needs, with larger shopping and dining areas close by. Schools such as Sydney Grammar, St Andrews and Sydney University are all nearby.
