Stanmore, NSW – 2048
Stanmore is a suburb in the inner-west of Sydney, located 6 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government area of Marrickville Council.
History
The land was purchased in 1835 by John Jones who named it after his birthplace in London, England. The area was primarily used for farming and only began to develop residentially with the arrival of the railway lines in 1878.

The area is well serviced by both buses and a quick train service into the City and CBD.
Shopping and Recreation
There is a small shopping centre located on Parramatta Road, although a much larger choice of shops, dining and sports and fitness facilities can be found in nearby Leichhardt, Newtown and Petersham.
Schools
The prestigious Newington College can be found here, as well as Stanmore Public School. There are many schools for all ages and denominations in the local area.
