Waterloo is an inner-city suburb of Sydney, located 4 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government area of the City of Sydney.

History

Waterloo took its name from the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, after the suburb of the same name in London, England. The area, originally Waterloo Farm, was part of a land grant to William Hutchinson in 1823.

Transport Links

Waterloo is serviced by bus routes to the Sydney CBD. Green Square underground railway station, on the Airport line of the City Rail network, is located in the south-west corner of the suburb. Redfern railway station is located close to the north-west corner of the suburb.

Recreation and Schools

Waterloo is currently undergoing a large urban renewal program, with more space being allocated for parks and green areas. There is a skate park, oval and small shopping strip here. Our Lady of Mount Carmel School can be found here as well as the Sydney Film School.
