Things to do before you move

Before you move we advise you to complete the following tasks:

- Notify the below people of your move

- Connect the phone

- Connect electricity and gas.

- Arrange for bond refund (if you are renting)

- Arrange insurance

Before the big move you may need to notify the following people and organisations of your new address and phone number:

- The post office, they will forward mail to your new address.

- Roads and Traffic Authority, you are required by law to update your drivers license and your car registration.

- Electoral Office

- Tafe/University/School

- Friends and Family

- Banks, Work through each account (Individual notification is required for each account that is savings, cheque and credit cards) and for each family member.

- Insurance company-life, car and house contents.

- Medicare

- Austudy

- Deliveries such as newspapers, wine society, milk and magazine subscriptions.

- Memberships to clubs

- Department of social security

- Other such as doctor, dentist, solicitor and stock broker.

Make these notifications several weeks in advance, especially for bills, in order that your do not accrue any excessive interest. Your solicitor will notify the council, water board and valuer general that you are the new owner of the property.

HOT TIP: The month before an election has proven in the past to be a perfect time to acquire a bargain in real estate. Be quick.
