Living in Bondi
Bondi is a beachside suburb located in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, located 7 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Waverley Council.
History
Bondi is an Aboriginal word meaning ‘water breaking over rocks’ and was occupied by the Cadigal before early European settlers arrived. The whole Bondi area was part of a 200-acre land grant to road-builder William Roberts in 1809 who sold the land in 1851 for 200 pounds.
Transport Links
Travel to the City and CBD as well as other locations around Greater Sydney is very easy by train from Bondi Junction. Alternatively, the local buses operate regular services, and the City is less than a 10 minute drive away.
Shopping and Recreation
Nearby Bondi Junction is a shopping mecca, with shops to suit every taste and pocket. The more eclectic Bondi Road is home to a small and interesting mix of shops, delis and bakeries. Centennial Park and Queens Park provide walking tracks and sporting facilities, with the famous Bondi beach right on your doorstep.
Schools
Waverley Public School is the local state school, and there are many exclusive private schools in the area including Ascham, Cranbrook and Sydney Grammar. Vaucluse and Dover Heights offer other schooling options a short drive away.
