Living in Leichhardt
Leichhardt is a suburb in the inner-west of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. Leichhardt is located 5 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district (CBD) and is the administrative centre for the local government area (LGA) of the Municipality of Leichhardt.
History
Leichhardt is named after the outback explorer Ludwig Leichhardt, who famously vanished without trace in 1848 on his attempt to cross the continent from the Darling Downs to the Swan River Colony on the Western Australia coast.
Transport Links
The City West Link Road runs along the northern border of Leichhardt and provides quick access into the City and CBD. The suburb is also very well serviced by buses with many frequent services passing through. Petersham railway station is the closest train station and Lilyfield light rail station is a terminus of the Metro Light Rail located close to the north-eastern border of Leichhardt.
Shopping and Recreation
The Norton Street commercial area contains restaurants, cafés, shops and grocery stores. Hotels, a cinema and Norton Plaza and the Italian Forum can also be found here. Several Parks can also be found in Leichhardt, including Pioneers Memorial Park, War Memorial Park, 36th Battalion Park and the Blackmore Oval, used for rugby and baseball. The suburb is also home to a thriving Italian community, and the annual Italian Festa is held in Leichhardt, with food, gifts and live entertainment.

Kegworth Public School, Leichhardt Public School, St Columba's Primary School, St Fiacre's Primary School and Sydney Secondary College can all be found in Leichhardt.
