Living in Abbotsford
Abbotsford is a suburb in the Inner West region of Sydney, located 10 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Canada Bay. Abbotsford sits on the peninsula between Abbotsford Bay and Hen and Chicken Bay, on the Parramatta River.
History
The suburb takes its name from a house built here in 1890 by Sir Arthur Renwick, who named it after Abbotsford House in England, home of poet and author Sir Walter Scott. The home later went on to be the administrative offices for the Nestle chocolate factory, and is today on the Register of the National Estate.

The area is well served by buses and there is also a ferry service running along the Parramatta River.
Shopping and Recreation
The neighbouring suburbs of Drummoyne and Five Dock provide residents with a large selection of shops, although Abbotsford is home to a few shops catering to everyday needs. Sydney Rowers, Sydney Women’s Rowing Club and Sydney High Rowing Club can all be found here, as well as the 12ft Flying Squadron, tennis courts and long harbourside walks.
