Living in Artarmon
Artarmon is a suburb on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, located 9 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Willoughby.
History
Established as a farming area in the late 1700's, Artarmon was named after the Irish family estate of Provost-Marshal William Gore in 1810. The suburb is now a pleasant mix of residential and commercial areas, whilst still retaining a leafy feel.
Transport Links
Artarmon railway station is on the North Shore Line and the Northern Line of the City Rail network. Road links are also good with the Gore Hill Freeway and the Pacific Highway meeting at Artarmon and just a 10 minute drive to Sydney CBD.
Shopping and Recreation
The suburb’s main shopping facilities are located in the Village Green shopping strip surrounding the railway station, with a selection of restaurants and cafes, and the Artarmon Public Library
Schools and Institutions
Schools in the suburb include Artarmon Primary School and the Artarmon Public School, which was named best public school in the 2008 NSW Schools of Excellence awards. Artarmon also boasts excellent healthcare facilities with The Royal North Shore Hospital a mere 1.6km away and Sydney Hospital just a 12 minute drive.
