Living in Killara
Killara is a suburb on the Upper North Shore of Sydney, located 14 kilometres north-west of the Sydney Central Business District in the local government area of Ku-ring-gai Council.
History
Killara is an Aboriginal word meaning permanent or always there. The name of the suburb was chosen when the railway line opened in 1899. James George Edwards was a representative of the people who requested a station be built here. The suburb was established and designed to be a residential area for Sydney’s gentry and features a lot of elegant, turn-of-the-century architecture to reflect this.
Transport Links
Killara railway station is on the North Shore Line of the City Rail network and has fast links into the City and other areas of Greater Sydney. The Pacific Highway runs through Killara allowing an easy drive to the CBD and other destinations around Sydney.
