Living in Frenchs Forest
Frenchs Forest is a suburb of northern Sydney, located 13 kilometres north of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Warringah Council. Frenchs Forest is part of the Northern Beaches region and also considered to be part of the Forest District, colloquially known as The Forest.
History
The land was acquired in the late 1800s by John French, who developed the land here as well as in neighbouring Forestville. Prior to that the land was inhabited by the Garigal Aboriginal tribe and evidence of this, including rock carvings and scarred trees can still be seen today.
Transport
Warringah Road, Forest Way and Wakehurst Parkway all run through Frenchs Forest at different points and provide access all over the Northern Beaches and to the City. Bus services in the area are good, with a bus service to Chatswood train station, as well as an express service into the CBD.
Recreation
Manly Damn Reserve borders Frenchs Forest, with an array of walking/jogging and cycling tracks and beautiful picnic and swimming spots. The Warringah Aquatic Centre also provides activities for children and adults. Forestway Shopping Centre can be found here, providing a selection of shops and a large supermarket.
Schools
Frenchs Forest Public School , The Forest High School, Mimosa Public School and Davidson High School can be found in Frenchs Forest.
