Living in Queenscliff

Queenscliff is a beachside suburb of northern Sydney located 16 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Warringah Council and is part of the Northern Beaches region. Queenscliff is situated between Manly and Freshwater.

History

Queenscliff was named in honour of Queen Victoria in the early 1900s when the area was popular with holiday-makers who stayed in holiday shacks on the headland. Queenscliff is famous amongst the Australian surf beaches for its "heavy" waves that break out at sea, and is said to have been the place where big wave surfing first became popular in Australia.

A number of bus services run through Queenscliff to Manly and Warringah Mall, although it is just minutes walk from Manly Wharf and the ferry services to Circular Quay.

There is a small selection of newsagents and coffee shops along the beach, with many more shopping facilities just minutes away in Manly or Warringah Mall. The beach really dominates for outdoor activities, with Queenscliff running into Manly Beach with its beach volleyball courts and surf schools.
