Living in Elanora Heights
Elanora Heights is a suburb in northern Sydney, located 27 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Pittwater Council. Elanora Heights is part of the Northern Beaches region.
History
The word Elanora is derived from the Aboriginal word meaning “home by the sea”, the ‘heights’ is taken from the suburbs geographical location on the hill near the lagoon. The foundation of the suburb was Elanora Heights Estate, built in 1929, after a large amount of land was purchased here by members of the Royal Sydney Golf Club, on which to build a large country club.
Transport Links
The area is served by local buses, and the suburbs close proximity to Mona Vale Road ensures good transport links to surrounding areas and around a 30 minute drive to the City during non-peak hours.
Shopping and Recreation
Elanora Heights is home to a small selection of local shops, two golf courses and the Uniting Church, which runs a bushland conference centre. The busier areas of Mona Vale and Narrabeen provide a larger selection of shopping and dining facilities.
Schools
The suburb is home to Elanora Heights Primary School and Elanora Heights Public School, as well as a choice of kindergarten and day care facilities. Other schools are a few minutes drive to nearby Narrabeen or Warriewood.
