Living in Rydalmere

Rydalmere is a suburb of Sydney, approximately 21 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Parramatta.

History

Rydalmere was named in 1866 by land speculator Thomas O'Neill when he subdivided Hannibal Macarthur's old Vineyard Estate. 'Rydal' comes from Rydal, Cumbria, in the Lake District of England where O'Neill was born, while 'mere' means a lake.

Transport Links

Rydalmere railway station is located on the Carlingford line of the CityRail network. Rydalmere ferry wharf is on Parramatta River and has services run by the Sydney Ferries network. The suburb is also well served by buses into the City and CBD and surrounding areas.

Shopping and Recreation

The area has a fantastic choice of parks and reserves, including Upjohn Park, home of the Rydalmere Cricket Club. There is also access to the Parramatta to Putney cycleway, access to the Parramatta River, Rydalmere Bowling Club, Cricket Club and the Rotary Club.
