Living in Marrickville

Marrickville, a suburb of Sydney's Inner West is located 7 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district and is the largest suburb in the Marrickville Council local government area.

History

The name Marrickville comes from the 60 acre 'Marrick' estate of Thomas Chalder, which was named after his native village Marrick, North Yorkshire, England. The railway line opened here in 1895 and the area grew in popularity.

Transport Links

Marrickville railway station is on the Bankstown line of the CityRail network and the area is well served by buses.

Shopping and Recreation

There is a shopping strip located along Marrickville Road, and the Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre with supermarkets, discount shops and a food court. There are a large number of parks here, as well as the Marrickville Golf Course, Marrickville Oval and Enmore Park swimming pool.
