Living in Banksia
Banksia is a suburb in southern Sydney, located 12 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Rockdale and is part of the St George area.
History
Banksia is named for Joseph Banks, a botanist on the Voyage of Discovery of James Cook which visited the nearby Botany Bay in 1770. Until the late nineteenth century, the area was heavily timbered but residential development began in the 1880s, and increased dramatically when the railway station opened here in 1906.

Shopping and Recreation
Banksia Shopping Centre can be found adjacent to the railway station and features local shops, cafes, hairdressers and the post office. More shopping facilities can be found along the Princes Highway, which in turn runs into the neighbouring suburbs of Arncliffe and Rockdale. The Rocksia Hotel can also be found here, featuring a bar and nightclub. St George Stadium can be found in Banksia, next to Barton Park, which is home to the Rockdale Ilinden Sports Centre.
