Avoca Beach is a coastal suburb of the Central Coast region, about 95 kilometres north of Sydney. It is located within the City of Gosford local government area.

History

The area was originally inhabited by the Awabakal Aboriginal people. “Avoca” is an Irish name meaning “great estuary” or “where the river meets the sea”, and is also the name of a town in County Wicklow, Ireland.

Transport Links

The area is served by local buses, and there is a ferry service to nearby Ettalong from the CBD. Trains also run between Sydney Central Station and the Central Coast every half hour.

Recreation

The area is home to many clubs and groups including Avoca Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Avoca Beach Rugby Club, Avoca Sharks Football Club, 1st Avoca Beach Surf Scouts, Avoca Boardriders Club, South Central Coast Bodyboarders Club and Avoca Beach Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade.
