Living in Balgowlah Heights

Balgowlah Heights is a suburb of northern Sydney, located 11 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Manly Council, in the Northern Beaches region. Situated on a ridge up to 80 metres above North Harbour and Middle Harbour, some houses have panoramic views of the harbour, Eastern Suburbs and Spit Bridge.

History

Balgowlah Heights was originally farmland on which was grown food for the new colony of settlers in the area. The area really began to develop as a fashionable residential suburb after World War II and today is one of Sydney’s more exclusive areas.

Transport Links

The area is well serviced with buses running to the shops in Balgowlah, North Manly and Warringah Mall, and the City and CBD are a pleasant ferry ride away from Manly Wharf.

Shopping and Recreation

There is a small shopping strip catering to daily needs, with the shopping centre at Balgowlah and Warringah Mall just a short drive away. Boating is popular here with boats and kayaks available for hire in Middle Harbour. The area is also surrounded by quiet, secluded beaches for swimming and relaxing, with an enclosed ocean pool at Forty Baskets Beach.
