Living in Glebe
Glebe is an inner-city suburb of Sydney, located 3 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government area of the City of Sydney, in the Inner West region.
History
Glebe's name derives the land on which it was developed was a glebe, originally owned by the Anglican Church. 'The Glebe' was a land grant of 400 acres given by Governor Arthur Phillip to Reverend Richard Johnson, Chaplain of the First Fleet, in 1790.
Transport Links
Central Railway Station is a short walk away, and the Metro Light Rail line has two stations in the suburb, Glebe and Jubilee Park. The area is also well serviced with buses running into the CBD and City.
Shopping and Recreation
Glebe Point Road features a shopping strip, known for its specialty shops, restaurants and cafés. The Broadway Shopping Centre includes a food court and cinema complex and a large range of shops. Every Saturday, Glebe is home to large markets selling arts, crafts, clothing etc in the grounds of Glebe Primary School. Glebe is also home to Wentworth Park, the NSW Harness Racing Club and the Sze Yup Chinese Temple.
