Malabar, NSW – 2036
Malabar is a suburb in south-eastern Sydney, located 12 kilometres south-east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Randwick. Malabar is a coastal suburb situated around Long Bay.
History
The suburb takes its name from a cargo steamer, the MV Malabar, which became wrecked on the rocks of Long Bay in 1931 following a storm. Prior to this the area was a small fishing village known as Long Bay.
Transport Links
The City and CBD are easily reached by road, although State Transit buses operate frequent services in the area along Anzac Parade.
Recreation
The atmosphere is relaxed here and that is reflected in the choice of cool cafes and beach lifestyle. Malabar Rock Pool is a favourite with kids and the Malabar Riding School offers horse riding lessons to both children and adults.
Schools
Malabar Public School and St Andrews Primary can both be found here, as well as good pre-school and child care facilities. Nearby suburbs offer a wider choice as well as Randwick TAFE and the University of New South Wales all close at hand.
