Living in Waverley

Waverley is an eastern suburb of Sydney, located 7 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Waverley Council. Waverley is the highest point of altitude in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs.

History

Waverley takes its name from a home built near Old South Head Road in 1827, by Barnett Levey, named Waverley House, allegedly after the title of his favourite book, ‘Waverley’, by author Sir Walter Scott. Waverley Municipality was proclaimed in June 1859, and the house, as a distinctive landmark, gave its name to the surrounding suburb.

Nearby Bondi Junction provides excellent transport links with a large train station and bus terminus into the City, CBD and beyond.

Recreation and Shopping

Waverley Rugby Club, St Charles Rugby League Waverley and Waverley Bowling Club can all be found here, with nearby Bondi Junction being a mecca for shoppers, and exercise fiends. A local selection of shops can be found on Charing Cross.
