Erskineville is an inner-city suburb of Sydney, located about 3 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government area of the City of Sydney. Erskineville is informally part of the region of the Inner West, but is also more correctly considered to be part of the Inner City because of its proximity to the city.

History

The suburb is so named after Erskine Villa, a house built by the Reverend George Erskine in the 1800s. The suburb was mainly industrialised with brick making and boot making, although the industrial buildings have recently been redeveloped to make way for residential dwellings.

The area is well served by buses along King Street although the fastest route into the City and CBD is by rail from Erskineville Station on the Bankstown Line.
