Living in Brookvale

Brookvale is a suburb of northern Sydney, located 16 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Warringah Council and is part of the Northern Beaches region.

History

The first development in the area was in 1836 when 64 hectares of farmland was granted to William Frederick Parker. In this period further land was sold to the Malcolm, Burns and Miles families, and in 1883, Sydney Alexander Malcolm built what became known as 'Brookvale House'. The land was sold to a large corporation in the 1960s, paving the way for what is now Warringah Mall.

Transport Links

Brookvale is situated along Pittwater Road, where numerous bus services operate southwards to Manly and the City, and north towards Palm Beach. Condamine Street leads over the Spit Bridge and into the city in around 20 minutes.

Shopping and Recreation

The main attraction in Brookvale is the expansive Warringah Mall, with over 300 stores including fashion, supermarkets and specialty food stores. The Brookvale Oval is home to the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles National Rugby League team, drawing large crowds on match days.
